The Tesco-owned e-book platform blinkbox books is on track to launch later this year. The company is already in talks with publishers about acquiring content for the site, The Bookseller understands.
Tesco bought an 80% stake in the film-streaming website blinkbox in April 2011. It has since rebranded Mobcast—an e-book company founded by Andy McNab and Tony Lynch which the supermarket bought for £4.5m last September—as blinkboxbooks.
The company is looking to hire developers, a head of marketing and a senior product manager to join its team for a launch expected to be in time for Christmas.
In March, Tesco announced Gavin Sathianathan, previously Facebook’s head of retail for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, would join the company as blinkbox books m.d.
