YouTuber Alfie Deyes is to write two more books for Blink Publishing, including a sequel to his bestselling debut The Pointless Book.
The sequel to The Pointless Book, which has sold more than 100,000 copies through Nielsen BookScan, will be published in April 2015.
This will be followed by a “differently themed concept book” to be released for the Christmas market in 2015.
Deyes was the first YouTuber to have a book published, and his deal has been followed by a flurry of acquisitions between publishers and other YouTube stars.
Next week, Penguin will release the first fiction title, Girl Online, from prominent YouTuber Zoella, which Penguin Random House UK boss Tom Weldon has said he thinks will be number one at Christmas.
Blink released Deyes’ book with an app, which has been downloaded more than 110,000 times. Both new books for 2015 will have dedicated apps.
Blink Publishing’s m.d. brokered the deal for world English language rights to the two books with Dom Smales, m.d. of Gleam Futures.
Mann said: “After the phenomenal success of The Pointless Book, we’re delighted to have signed a deal for the sequel and another high concept book for Alfie, details of which we don’t want to reveal just yet.
“We have a great partnership with Gleam and Alfie. There’s a whole generation watching YouTubers rather than television. Blink was the first publisher to bring such a book to market and we pride ourselves on being innovative trend-setters.”
Deyes said: “The reaction to The Pointless Book has been insane and I’m so grateful to all my viewers and everyone who’s supported me. I’m really proud of what we achieved with The Pointless Book and I’m already thinking of ways to make the sequel even more awesome.”
