Transworld has bought the first book from cycling journalist Felix Lowe, better known by his blogger alter ego Blazin' Saddles.
Transworld's Henry Vines bought UK and Commonwealth rights at auction from Charlie Brotherstone at A M Heath, with the book set to chart Lowe's journey from bike writer to bike rider, taking to the saddle for the first time in years to complete his own grand tour of Europe.
Lowe cycled from Barcelona to Rome, putting professional cycling's three major stage races —the Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana and Giro d'Italia—under the microscope. The as-yet- untitled book is said to capture "the potent mix of madness, humour and human spirit that makes people identify with cycling so strongly" and will be published in spring 2014.
Lowe's blogs as Blazin' Saddles for Eurosport and the author also has a regular column in Cyclist magazine.
