Blackwell’s asks for 'promotional rebate' from publishers

Bookseller Blackwell’s has written to a number of academic and trade publishers and their distributors, seeking an additional 7% discount in order to become profitable. The move follows a "strategic review" of the business, with the retailer indicating that what it described as "high street headwinds" have slowed its progress towards profit, despite increasing sales for a third year in a row. However, some trade players have said they will not accept a change in terms.
