Big brand authors rebound as Walliams’ growth begins to slow

In our recent year and half-year reviews, we have noted a trend of an overall decline in TCM revenue for big-brand authors, and a somewhat counter-intuitive rise in sales for those on the midlist.

That has changed in 2018, at least at the very top. The top 20 authors of this half-year collectively earned £57.8m, a 10.3% jump on what the top 20 shifted in the first 26 weeks of 2017. Twenty-six authors have sold more than £1m through the TCM in 2018—from David Walliams’ £6.2m, to Anthony Horowitz’s £1.03m—compared to 19 in the comparable period last year.
