Egmont has signed up award-winning artist Rob Biddulph to re-illustrate the classic series, Flat Stanley.
Tiffany Leeson, art director at Egmont Publishing, signed the deal with Jodie Hodges at United Agents for Biddulph's new illustrations, in agreement with Katherine Flynn at The Kneerim and Williams Agency, representatives of the Brown Trust.
The Flat Stanley series has sold over 30,000 copies in the UK in 2016 alone, according to the publisher. The new-look series will launch in July with three titles: Flat Stanley, Stanley and the Magic Lamp and Invisible Stanley. A Christmas title, Stanley’s Christmas Adventure will publish in November 2017, and a further two titles will publish in March 2018.
The series was created by Jeff Brown who died in 2003.
Ali Dougal, fiction publishing director at Egmont Publishing said of the deal: "Flat Stanley is beloved by generations of readers, and Rob Biddulph is one of the most exciting and recognised new talents in children’s illustration, so it’s a real thrill to see them come together in these delicious new editions. I know they’ll bring joy to many households and classrooms."
Biddulph added: "I am beyond thrilled to be working with the Egmont team on the Flat Stanley books, which have been firm favourites in our house for a long time. It’s a huge honour to be drawing Jeff’s iconic characters and I really hope I can do them justice."
Flat Stanley, Stanley and the Magic Lamp and Invisible Stanley will be published on 27th July 2017 and Stanley’s Christmas Adventure will be published on 2nd November 2017.
