Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been named as one of 10 contenders for TIME magazine’s Person of the Year.
Bezos takes his place on a list that also includes Syrian president Bashar Assad, Pope Francis and US president Barack Obama.
Putting the shortlist on its website, TIME said: “TIME selected its first “Man of the Year” in 1927. The recognition goes to the person who TIME’s editors think most influenced the news this year, for good or bad.”
The other contenders are Texas senator Ted Cruz; singer Miley Cyrus; Iranian president Hassan Rouhani; American Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius; NSA leaker Edward Snowden; and gay rights activist Edith Windsor.
The winner will be announced on Wednesday (11th December).
