Hamlyn, part of Octopus Publishing Group, has acquired a number one French bestseller: Simplissime: The Easiest French Cookbook In the World.
The book, from chef Jean-François Mallet, comprises 180 of easy-to-follow recipes for French food made up of only two to six ingredients. Dishes include "apple tart with cinnamon", made up of five ingredients, and "spaghetti with asparagus and orange", made in just three steps.
It is credited with an "innovative visual approach", as accompanied by clear photographs of each ingredient and finished dish.
According to Octopus, the French bestseller, originally published in France in September 2015, has been selling a one copy every 10 seconds, clocking up sales of over 200,000 copies to date.
Denise Bates, group publishing director at Octopus Publishing Group, acquired world English language rights excluding North America from Hachette Pratique. Simplissime will be published on Bastille Day, 14th July 2016, priced at £20.
Bates said: "This is a fantastically refreshing concept, perfectly in tune with the highly visual approach we are now so used to with recipe videos and online content. France has taken this book to its heart in a major way and I have every expectation that we Brits will do the same."
