TV presenter Ben Fogle is teaming up with writer Steve Cole for a new children’s series about a dog, due to be published by HarperCollins Children’s in April next year.
The Mr Dog series is about a scruffy mutt who travels the country helping animals in peril, and was inspired by Fogle’s experiences of working with animals.
“I have always been passionate about animals. My father was – and still is – a vet so my childhood was filled with animals of every kind,” said Fogle. “Often funny, absurd, endearing, but always remarkable, these creatures have provided me with all kinds of brilliant material. I can’t wait to share them with young readers everywhere.”
Senior commissioning editor Michelle Misra acquired world rights from Philippa Milnes-Smith, m.d. At LAW and the first book, Mr Dog and the Rabbit Habit, will be published in paperback, e-book and audio in April 2019.
Misra said: “Ben Fogle’s Mr Dog is the perfect addition to our growing young fiction list. The series is based on stories that Ben has shared with his own children and I can’t think of a better person to bring them to life with him than Steve Cole. Shining with originality and warmth, young readers will love them.”
Fogle is also the co-author, along with his wife, of UP: My Life’s Journey to the Top of Everest, which will be published by WilliamCollins this month, and The Accidental Adventurer, published by Corgi in 2012.
