David Fickling Books (DFB) has hired Bella Pearson to the newly created role of publishing director, beginning 11th April.
Pearson helped David Fickling establish DFB as in imprint of Random House Children’s Books in 2011 and has worked in the children’s books industry for more than 20 years.
“It gladdens my heart to have Bella re-joining the DFB editorial team,” said Fickling. “She was with us from the start: setting up the imprint with me in our kitchen. Bella is to my mind one of the finest editors working in books for young people today, which is to say one of the finest literary editors in the UK. Lucky us. Lucky DFB authors! Lucky readers!”
In her new role Pearson will oversee Rosie Fickling and Anthony Hinton, both of whom have been promoted to the role of editor.
Pearson said: “I'm absolutely thrilled to be working with David again, and looking forward to joining the hugely talented team at DFB. Publishing the very best books for children and young adults is quite simply the most enjoyable job I can imagine.”
During her career Pearson has acquired books such as The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne (RHCP), Before I Die by Jenny Downham (DFB) and A Swift Pure Cry by Siobhan Dowd (DFB), and has since 2013 been working as a freelance editor and consultant.
