Faber is set to publish a new "album" by experimental rock star Beck, to be released as 20 pieces of individual sheet music.
None of the songs will be recorded, but by including full scores, including ukulele notation, fans will be able to recreate the music themselves.
The album, Song Reader, will be lavishly illustrated, in a hardcover carrying case, with 20 individual full colour song booklets featuring covers designed by more than a dozen artists.
Faber’s publishing director Lee Brackstone said: “Beck is one of the great maverick pop stars of this, or any age, and as soon as I saw Song Reader the relevance of the concept struck me. Song Reader makes a radical statement about the value and importance of performed and recorded music at a time when these very things are under threat.”
Beck joins a music list at Faber that includes artists such as Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker and Manic Street Preachers bassist Nicky Wire.
His Grammy-nominated 1996 album Odelay was named as the album of the year by American magazine Rolling Stone, and UK music magazines NME and Mojo.
Song Reader will be published in December at a price of £18.99.
