Beautiful Books has acquired Everything Beautiful Began After, a debut novel by short story writer Simon Van Booy. Publisher Simon Petherick bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Carolyn Bodkin at HarperCollins USA, and will publish in hardback and e-book simultaneously on 7th July 2011.
Petherick said: "I am absolutely delighted to publish Simon's first novel, a gorgeous feast of literary writing which examines love, isolation and longing in a thrilling way. I am so pleased that we have been able to continue what I hope to be a long-term relationship with this wonderful writer by securing the rights to his first novel."
Everything Beautiful Began After is described by the publisher as "a beautifully rendered novel set against the backdrop of Athens". It tells of the complicated relationships between Rebecca, a painter, George, a graduate and Henry, an archaeologist.
Beautiful Books has published two short story collections by Van Booy, including Love Begins in Winter which won the 2009 Frank O'Connor Short Story Award.
