BBC Books releases Dr Who app

BBC Books has released the Doctor Who Encyclopedia iPad app, including more than 3,000 entries, with the initial download priced £4.99.

The app was developed by the publisher with creative digital marketing agency Brandwidth, and includes all content from the updated edition of The Doctor Who Encyclopedia by Gary Russell, which was published on 15th October as a £25 hardback.

It includes information on every episode featuring the 11th Doctor, who is played by Matt Smith. The user can scroll through a complete A-Z of the show, discovering the Doctor's enemies, allies and the places and objects that have played a part in the shows. It also showcases episodes, giving a preview and a link to buy them directly from iTunes.

The app also contains interactive "entry points" for the Doctor, and other major characters from the show. The Doctor's enables users to move their iPad to scroll through a 3D environment, featuring key characters from the series.

BBC Books has released additional downloads, each priced £4.99, featuring episode guides and other features relating to the ninth Doctor, who was played by Christopher Eccleston, and the 10th Doctor, played by David Tennant.
