Barnes the Booker favourite

<p>With only hours to go before the prize is awarded Julian Barnes is the hot favourite to land the &#163;50,000 Booker Prize with bookie William Hill quoting odds of 5-4. However, Kazuo Ishiguro appears to be the popular choice, leading the way in voting on the Man Booker Prize website with Never Let Me Go (Faber), as well as being the highest seller on the high street.

Barnes was originally a 7-1 chance to to win with his book, Arthur&amp;George (Cape) at the longlist stage, but has been heavily backed, overtaking the original 3-1 favourite, Saturday (Cape) by Ian McEwan.
