The Booksellers Association has produced a campaign toolkit to help booksellers keen to join the fight to save libraries.
A display poster and advice on lobbying are now available from a BA microsite. BA chief executive Tim Godfray said: "The BA has supported the Save Our Libraries campaign since it began. We know that booksellers are the hub of the community and, as such, many of our members have already been instrumental in campaigning against local library closures. We want to support as many members as possible to get involved."
The poster and lobbying advice would help booksellers campaign to keep their local library open in "the most effective way," he said. Campaigner Desmond Clarke called the BA's initiative "timely and imaginative". He added: "Libraries play a crucial role in promoting literacy, reading, education and the acquisition of knowledge. We all need to send a very clear message to government and local politicians that disproportionate cuts to library services and the planned closure of 500 libraries is unacceptable.”
