The Booksellers Association is calling for publishers to nominate titles for the Independent Booksellers' Week Book Award 2012.
The IBW Book Award is the only award chosen by UK independent booksellers and their customers, giving publishers what the BA calls a “prime opportunity to promote key titles into the independent sector".
Publishers are asked to submit their entries in either of the two categories—adult and children’s—by 7th April 2012. Submitted titles will need to have been published in paperback between 1st January 2012 and 1st June 2012.
A BA spokesperson said: “Shortlisted titles will be heavily promoted instore during Independent Booksellers’ Week and beyond . . .
"Shortlisted authors will have the opportunity to participate in bookshop events as part of IBW, and shortlisted titles will be promoted as a group to booksellers via POS materials including posters, bookmarks and leaflets featuring the shortlisted and winning books.”
The shortlist of ten adult and ten/12 children’s books will be selected by a judging panel in April, and will be publicly announced to coincide with Independent Booksellers’ Week (30th June–7th July). Public voting for the overall winners will continue until 31st August, with the winners announced in early September.
Last year’s winners were The Hare with Amber Eyes by Edmund de Waal in the adult category and Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex in the children’s category.
