Avon has become the latest publisher to acquire a book tying into the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster.
Editorial director Claire Bord bought world English rights to two novels by Gill Paul from Vivien Green at Shiel Land. Women and Children First is set on board the Titanic and explores the horror of its sinking and its aftermath through the eyes of several characters. It will be published in spring 2012.
Bord said: "With her meticulous attention to detail and impeccable historical research, Gill has brought to life every corridor, dining salon and deck on board this colossal ship. However, it’s not just about the setting and atmosphere, but the individual stories of each of the characters who survived that keep you hooked until the last page.
"Gill is an extraordinary storyteller and we are thrilled to be publishing her first novel to coincide with the centenary year of the ship’s sinking."
The second novel in the deal, with details to be confirmed, will be released in 2013.
