Avon Books has scooped Anne Wyn Clark's "compelling" novel Whisper Cottage.
Senior commissioning editor Rachel Faulkner-Wilcocks acquired world all language rights directly from the author. The book is slated for publication in September 2021.
The novel follows the story of Stina and Jack as they move to an old rural cottage, hoping for a fresh start. The synopsis goes on: "Their new home is run-down compared to their neighbour’s, but generous Mrs Barley quickly becomes a friend. Until Stina sees a mysterious figure in the widow’s garden, and her happy new life begins to unravel. And when she hears strange noises in the night, she is forced to question if Mrs Barley is what she seems. Why do the other villagers whisper about her? Why is she so eager to help the couple? And what is she hiding in her picture-perfect home?"
Faulkner-Willcocks said: "I am delighted to welcome Anne to the Avon list with Whisper Cottage – the type of story that will leave your hairs standing on end long after you’ve turned the final page. Anne seamlessly weaves dark secrets from the past in with a compelling contemporary storyline, and I can’t wait to publish this brilliant book."
Wyn Clark added: "The idea for Whisper Cottage came to me several years ago – the premise being that, no matter how perfect things may seem on the surface, everyone has secrets. The idyllic rural setting is juxtaposed with some very dark themes. I am thrilled to be working with the wonderful Rachel Faulkner-Willcocks and the whole incredible team at Avon to bring Stina’s narrative to life."
