HarperCollins imprint Avon is experimenting with geolocation in its e-books, the first time it has been used in HarperCollins fiction.
The publisher held a digital day for its authors in February, illustrating different opportunities for writers to add digital elements to their work. The new edition of Jacqui Rose's Trapped, a thriller set in London's Soho, will allow readers using an e-reader or tablet to see mentioned locations photographed and plotted on a map. Readers can then follow the characters through the city.
Rose said: "Digital is the perfect format for keeping content alive and up-to-date and is a wonderful way to win over a whole group of new readers." She called the features added to Trapped "a lovely added extra that enables readers to see the real world geographic location of key places and locations in my novel."
Sam Hancock, digital product development manager said: "This project neatly encapsulates everything we are trying to do around product innovation and how we work with our authors‹pushing the formats in which we publish to the limit to give readers as rich an experience as possible, whilst also simultaneously working hand-in-hand with our authors to develop new approaches to content."
The new Trapped edition will be released on 13th June.
