HarperCollins imprint Avon has signed Bernardine Kennedy to write a series of post-war sagas.
Previously an author of family dramas for Headline including Shattered Lives and Past Chances, Kennedy signed the unagented four-book deal with commissioning editor Kate Bradley. She will write under the pseudonym Megan Maxwell for Avon.
Bradley said: “We are delighted that Bernardine will be writing sagas for us, she has an exceptional voice, her books are complete page-turners full of cracking dialogue and she has a masterful hand at creating genuinely sympathetic characters.
"Sagas are continuing to grow and Avon has a proven track record in this area. Megan Maxwell is definitely one to watch."
The post-war sagas will be set in the London suburb of Walthamstow and the seaside resort of Southend. The first novel will be published in spring 2012 and will follow teenage evacuee Ruby who falls pregnant and is thrown out by her family.
