Authors to receive $1,500 advance on Amazon crowd-source platform

Amazon has released more details on its crowd-sourced publishing platform, which will be open to English-language books in genres including romance and science fiction and fantasy.

Authors will have to agree to a 45-day exclusivity agreement with Amazon if they choose to submit a manuscript, according to reports.

Publishers Weekly reported that to enter, authors must submit a “complete, never-before-published manuscript and book cover image”.
The programme is looking for works of 50,000 words or more, and “a book cover image that reflects the essence and uniqueness of your book”.

Around 3,000 words of the work will be published if the manuscript is chosen for the programme. Readers will be able to vote for their favourites, which will go on to be judged by the Amazon team for publication.

If a title is chosen and the author chooses to go ahead with publication, they will receive a $1,500 advance, a 50% e-book book royalty rate, five-year renewable terms and marketing.

Authors can sign up to receive notifications about the publishing programme on the Amazon website.
