Authonomy launches digital imprint

Authonomy, HarperCollins' writing community for unpublished authors, is launching a new imprint with plans to publish 12 titles per year as digital editions.

The imprint will be headed by Scott Pack, who runs Authonomy and is publisher at the Friday Project. The imprint will have world rights to each title and if a digital edition sells asufficient amount of copies, it will be published in print.

Pack said: "I was brought in to Authonomy in order to find great books and publish them. There are many wonderful manuscripts on the website and publishing them digitally gives us more flexibility in terms of release schedule, price and promotion and offers a great testing ground for these new writers."

The imprint will launch in January 2012 with The Qualities of Wood by Mary Vensel White. The book is about Vivian and Nowell, a married couple who take a break from their city lives to renovate his late grandmother's country home. Vivian's attempts to write a mystery novel there are derailed when a local girl dies in the woods behind the house.

HC launched Authonomy in 2008 as a platform for authors to publish their works online. Since its launch, six titles have been discovered on the site and subsequently published, including Miranda Dickinson's Fairytale of New York (Avon).
