Barnes & Noble's Nook Media has launched a new audiobooks app for Android smartphones and tablets.
The Nook Audiobooks App for Android, which is free to download, has a catalogue of 50,000 audiobooks.
Kashif Zafar, vice president of US digital content at Nook Media, said: “Barnes & Noble is committed to providing the very best reading content in whatever format our customers choose and with the continued growth in the audiobook market, we felt the time was right to introduce our Nook Audiobooks App to provide another great way to experience books.”
Most of the audiobooks are available to sample for free and the selection includes new titles such as George W Bush’s 41: A Portrait of My Father by (W H Allen), Stephen King’s Revival (Hodder & Stoughton), and Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult (Hodder & Stoughton).
Customers who download the app for the first time are also being offered two free audiobooks from a list including Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (Phoenix), The Heist by Janet Evanovich (Headline) and Lauren Hillenbrand’s Seabiscuit (Fourth Estate). The title selection will change each week for new downloaders.
Nook’s audiobooks are powered by Findaway World via its audiobook technology and distribution platform, AudioEngine. The app is available now on the Nook App Storefront and Google Play for Android smartphones and tablets, including the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook.
