Audible has snapped up rights to Psycho-Logical, a new non-fiction Audible Original from neuroscientist and author Dr Dean Burnett.
Released exclusively in audio on 10th October, Psycho-Logical will take a clinical look at the ‘why’ behind mental health issues: uncovering what happens in the brain when things go wrong, and how treatments and coping mechanisms work. It will be narrated by Matt Addis.
"Psycho-Logical is an insightful, illuminating, often-amusing but still scientifically rigorous look at mental health issues and how they're currently medically understood," said Audible. "Drawing on nearly 20 years’ experience of working in the areas of neuroscience, psychology and psychiatry, Psycho-Logical will combine in-depth research with genuine testimonials from those who deal with their own issues on a daily basis."
Contributors include comedians Bethany Black, Dan Mitchell and Guy Kelly; sex blogger Girl on the Net; writer and actor Amelia Stubberfield; journalist Rachel England; HR officer Lowri Williams; and social media manager Martha Mills. Each contributor has narrated their own section.
Burnett said: “Psycho-Logical takes the sting out of mental health matters, by providing insight, clarity and understanding into some of the more baffling, complex aspects of the most common problems. It's for anyone dealing with mental health problems, or who cares about someone who does, or even just has a brain and mental health of their own. Which is, admittedly, everyone."
Audible commissioning editor Harriet Poland added: “I’ve long admired Dean’s ability to take complex neurological science and explain it in a way that is at once crystal clear and utterly engaging. It’s with great pride that we’re publishing his new audiobook, where he uses compassion, care and no small dose of humour to illuminate a topic often mired in misinformation. The combination of Dean’s wealth of knowledge, and his contributors’ grace and experience make this an invaluable book for understanding what’s really happening in the brains of those in the midst of mental health issues.”
