Atom, the young adult imprint of Little, Brown Book Group has bought a paranormal series by Amy Plum.
The three-book deal was signed with Jean McGinley at HarperCollins US for an undisclosed sum. Atom has UK and Aus rights and will publish the first title, Die with Me, simultaneously with HarperCollins US as part of a worldwide release in May 2011.
Plum's debut novel is a gothic romance set in modern-day Paris and features 'revenants', aundead beings who are fated to sacrifice themselves over and over again to save others' lives.
"Amy has used her amazing imagination and wonderful familiarity with the city to create a Paris unlike any I’ve ever read," said Sam Smith, Atom editorial director. "The only thing that kept us from frantically turning the pages to find out what happened next were our, quite long!, editorial discussions about which of her revenants we were most in love with!"
The imprint has also launched a new young reviewers programme for 12 to 18-year-olds. Members will receive pre-publication copies of new titles to review which will then be posted in a new, dedicated section of the Atom website.
Atom said that it is "committed to making sure that every Atomic will get the opportunity to review a title they like the sounds of, but hope[s] that many more people will join in the conversation".
