Atlantic has signed a multi-year project from cartoonist Martin Rowson, retelling classic Christmas carols.
Each year will see the artist release a pun-laden carol, converted line-by-line into "silliness, filth and fun".
The first carol to be released will be God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, which will be published as a fully illustrated hardback in November 2015.
Editor James Roxburgh acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from David Miller at Rogers, Coleridge and White.
Roxburgh said: "Martin Rowson is the closest thing we have to William Hogarth. He is a genius of his medium: side-splitting, scathing, scurrilous, scatological and, surprisingly, sincere. I am extraordinarily proud and entirely unrepentant to be unleashing him on po-faced carol enthusiasts and dangerously earnest Christmassers the world over."
Rowson's work has appeared in the Guardian, Independent on Sunday and Daily Mirror, and his most recent book, The Coalition Book (SelfMadeHero), co-written with Will Self, won the political humour and satire book of the year award at the 2015 Paddy Power Political Book Awards.
