Atlantic has signed a book by former Chess world champion and Russian pro-democracy leader Garry Kasparov.
Senior editor James Nightingale acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to Winter is Coming: Why Vladimir Putin and the Enemies of the Free World Must be Stopped in a deal with Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein, on behalf of Chris Parris-Lamb at the Gernert Company.
The book argues for a unified, worldwide stand against Russian president Vladimir Putin, detailing Putin's Russia as a threat to free countries of the word alongside Isis or Al Qaeda. Kasparov, who was the number one chess player in the world for 20 years, retired from the professional game in 2005 to lead a pro-democracy campaign in Russia, running for the presidency in 2008.
Nightingale said: "This is a bold and important book by one of Putin’s most outspoken critics. I am delighted that Garry Kasparov has chosen Atlantic Books to be the publisher of Winter is Coming and we very much look forward to working with him when we publish this autumn
The book will be published in October 2015.
