Atlantic publishing director Margaret Stead has bought a debut novel set in the TriBeCa district of Manhattan and titled Triburbia.
The debut is by US writer Karl Taro Greenfeld, already the author of four non-fiction titles including a memoir of growing up with an autistic brother, Boy Alone. Stead bought UK and Commonwealth rights from HarperCollins US and will publish in 2013.
Stead said the novel explores the lives of a group of fathers whose children all attend the local school. "Of all the novels about how we live, few seem to deal with the experience of fatherhood in the modern world," she said.
"Driven by clear, hard prose and engrossing characters, Triburbia strikes chords that range from haunting and heartbreaking to darkly funny and surprisingly poignant."
