Astra House joins GMC Distribution

Astra House, a new adult trade publisher launching in August, has joined GMC Distribution as a client.

The new publisher will release American and international literary fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. It is part of Astra Publishing House, a wholly owned subsidiary of Beijing-based Thinkingdom Media Group.

Astra House will aim to publish 20 to 25 titles a year and is "dedicated to publishing the best non-fiction and fiction writers from around the world". Editorial director Alessandra Bastagli said: “Our mission at Astra House will be to advocate for authors who experience their subject deeply and personally, and who have a strong point of view; writers who represent multifaceted expressions of intellectual thought and personal experience, and who can introduce readers to new perspectives about their everyday lives as well as the lives of others.”

GMC's client list already includes selected Penguin Random House US imprints such as Sasquatch Books, Interweave, Blue Star Press and Watson-Guptill and other publishers including Sterling Publishing, the Taunton Press, Monsa Publishing, Tuva Publishing, Sixth & Spring and Quail Studio.

Sales director Michael Robb said: “We are very excited to be representing Astra House. GMC already enjoys sales success with classic literature and masterworks of fiction and we look forward to introducing our customers to these diverse literary voices. Having books that espouse a philosophy of greater representation makes both ethical sense and good business sense.”
