Collins has bought a business book from Karren Brady, the new right-hand woman for Lord Alan Sugar in the BBC One show "The Apprentice".
Iain MacGregor, Collins publishing director, acquired world rights in all languages from Nick Canham at Roar Global for an undisclosed sum. The book, I Mean Business!: Inside Secrets From The Only Lady of Football, will be released in hardback in spring 2011.
As well as her role on "The Apprentice", Brady is vice-chairman of West Ham United. In 1993, aged 23, she was made managing director of Birmingham City FC, and became the only woman to have overseen a Premier League football club when they were promoted in 2002.
Collins said the book would give "inside accounts of how she has made it in a male-dominated environment, but still finding time to build a media career that has enjoyed high-profile
appearances in a variety of national women’s magazines and TV shows".
MacGregor said: "Post England World Cup failure, this has cheered everyone up to know that we’re publishing Karren Brady. She is the face of the modern, successful businesswoman who still maintains a human side. She will have plenty to tell of her time spent with the likes of Lord Sugar, Sir Phillip Green, David Sullivan and a host of the biggest names in sport.
"It will provide Karren a platform to not only show how she made it against the odds, but also her not so often seen humorous side that has levelled many a footballer and businessman."
Brady said: "I'm delighted to be joining forces with Collins for my latest book. Probably the most enjoyable part of being in the media, as well as business, is passing on some of what I have learned over my career. This book will enable me to take that a step further and flourish the advice that I have gathered from being involved in football and industry for the past seventeen years. I can't wait for it to hit the shelves."
Capstone published Brady's business book, Playing to Win, in 2004. She had two novels, United and Trophy Wives, published by Time Warner in the late 1990s.
