Apple iPad sales top 7m in six months

<p>Apple sold 4,190,000 iPads in its fourth quarter bringing the total number sold since launch up to 7,460,000. The multlmedia device launched internationally during the period, after first launching in the US in April. <br /><br />The number is slightly behind some analysts&#39; predictions, with some suggesting that it could have sold up to 6m in the quarter. However, the device is still the fastest selling non-phone digital device ever, and has overtaken the 6 million iPhones sold during the full year of the phone&#39;s 2007 debut. Apple is selling than 1m a month, meaning that by the end of 2010 it will have sold more than 10m iPads. </p><p>The new device helped Apple post record revenue of $20.3bn and quarterly profit of $4.3bn in its fiscal 2010 fourth quarter ended 25th September, 2010, compared with sales of $12.2bn billion and profit of $2.5bn a year earlier. International sales accounted for 57% of the quarter&rsquo;s sales. In addition to the iPad, the company sold 14.1 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 91% unit growth over last year&#39;s equivalent figure.<br /><br />&quot;We are blown away,&quot; was Apple&rsquo;s chief executive Steve Jobs&#39; response, adding, &quot;We still have a few surprises left for the remainder of this calendar year.&quot;</p>
