Apple Canada given thumbs-up over iBookstore

<p>Apple Canada has been granted approval under the Investment Canada Act to establish the iBookstore Canada. In return Apple said it would promote Canadian-authored books, including books by new and independent writers, and assist Canadian publishers in streamlining processes of e-book creation and enhancement.</p><p>James Moore, minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, said: &quot;Our Government is committed to strengthening Canada&#39;s economy through all its sectors, especially arts and culture. Apple has demonstrated how iBookstore Canada represents new opportunities for Canadian authors and publishers, and I have determined that this investment will be of net benefit to Canada.&quot;<br /><br />The store launched on 1st July, Canada Day. But the review was ordered in September to ensure the store posed no risk to the nation&#39;s cultural identity. </p>
