Apex Publishing has bought the rights to a joint memoir by "jazz legend" Kenny Ball and co-musician John Bennett.
Ball and Bennett were founder members of a jazz band in 1958, Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen, and are still performing together today. The publisher calls the title an "entertaining and heart-warming book", with "magical memories" from the jazz duo’s time performing together.
Kenny Ball’s and John Bennett’s Musical Skylarks: A Medley of Memories will be published in September next year as a £12.99 hardback.
Chris Cowlin, production and publishing manager, said he was "absolutely thrilled" to have acquired the rights from the "jazz legend" He added: "the book takes the reader behind the scenes with Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen and provides an insight as to what it was like being a part of one of the most influential jazz bands of all time."
Apex signed contracts directly with Ball and Bennett and acquired full world rights.
Ball said: "John and I had enormous fun putting this story of our lives together. Didn’t we laugh while we were writing it; it was like stitching together a patchwork quilt of chuckles. Well it certainly kept us in stitches for weeks."
