Parents and teachers who struggle to understand the lingo of today’s youth will now be able to bridge the communication gap with a new title from Anova Books.
Pimp Your Vocab by Lucy Tobin is aimed at bewildered adults who don’t know what “moobs” are or what it means to get “poked” on Facebook. Turning to a standard dictionary won’t help and this is why Anova has designed the dictionary-like title due to be published under the Portico imprint on 7th September.
Portico commissioning editor Malcolm Croft said that the book would be a humorous title with “stupid and ridiculous” words in it. He said: “The evolution of the English language throws up some funny words. You often hear teenagers speaking in what seems like a completely different language.”
According to Croft, the book could easily have ended up being a “500-page epic” as there are so many interesting words around. He added that he would like to do a second book in the series as there are always new words evolving.
Pimp Your Vocab (£7.99) is Tobin’s first title, though she has had articles published before in the Independent, Daily Mail and Guardian. Croft added: “She’s young enough to understand the kids, but old enough not to be one.”
