Sales rise but profit falls in 'challenging' year for Connect Books

Connect Books, a division of Connect Group, which comprises Bertrams, Dawson Books and Wordery, faced "another challenging year", according to the Group's preliminary results for the year ending 31st August 2016. While it delivered total revenue of £195.9m, up 3.1% compared with £190.1m in 2015, adjusted operating profit was £2.5m, down 3.8% compared with £2.6m in 2015.

The results benefited from "progress" in Wordery and "a good recovery" in UK wholesale, but this was offset by challenges in the library markets and "cost pressures" which Connect said could not be fully mitigated in the pe...
