E-book retailer Anobii is changing its name to 'eBooks by Sainsbury’s'.
The move comes six months after the supermarket bought a 64% majority stake in the company, which is also owned by HarperCollins, Penguin and Random House as minority shareholders.
Anobii has sent a message to its users saying there will be changes made to its terms and conditions and privacy policy, reflecting the name change.
The company added: “Sainsbury's liked the look of the beta.anobii.com as a good platform to be able to sell e-books to customers in the UK. Consequently, eBooks by Sainsbury's is a new name and brand created for beta.anobii.com so that there is a familiarity with a trusted brand for UK customers who want to discover, read and recommend books online.”
It added that Anobii would continue to exist as “a social network for book lovers” and would be maintained by a dedicated Anobii team.
