Angry Robot has made two fantasy fiction acquisitions, one a swashbuckling adventure and the other set in Elizabethan England.
Both deals were signed by publishing director Marc Gascoigne for world English rights for physical, digital and audio editions through the Zeno Agency.
Angry Robot will publish the first of three books by Anne Lyle in the US and UK in March 2012. Billed as an Elizabethan fantasy, The Night Masque trilogy is about a team of explorers who have returned from the New World with a band of primitive elders. A swordsman hired to protect them, Mal Catlyn, soon enters a world of conspiracy and magic.
The second deal was also for three books. A release date for David Tallerman's Giant Thief, the first in a series, has yet to be confirmed. The book is about a thief who finds a country's army on his tail when he steals the wrong treasure.
Gascoigne said: "These are two very different fantasy series, but they share a common quality—thoroughly engaging storytelling. Both these authors have the that rare skill of grabbing the reader in an opening paragraph and taking them off on a wild, wild ride full of magic, swordplay and adventure."
