Amazon has stepped in to sponsor 25 reading volunteers as part of the London Evening Standard’s literacy campaign.
The e-commerce company will fund 25 volunteers coordinated through charity Beanstalk to help around 75 children at St Mary’s Primary School in Battersea, London, to read.
Barnes & Noble’s Nook has also previously been involved in sponsoring the newspaper's Get London Reading campaign.
Darren Hardy, manager of Kindle Direct Publishing at Amazon UK, said: “We are passionate about reading, and helping young people up and down the country develop the reading skills they need to get the most out of life.”
In 2012 Ukrainian billionaire Kostyantin Zhevago donated £100,000 to find volunteers at St Mary’s for three years. Amazon UK will continue the work.
