Amazon Publishing launches German language programme

Amazon Publishing is launching a German language programme, after being "delighted" with the reader response to its German translations.

Jorrit Van der Meulen, vice president of Kindle, EU, said publisher Sarah Tomashek and her Munich team would be "supporting our efforts to bring great works written in German to a wider audience."

The launch list will include novel Klang der Gezeiten (The Sound of the Tides) by Emily Bold, to be published as a €9.99 paperback and €4.99 e-book, and romantic comedy New York für Anfängerinnen (New York for Beginners) by FOCUS Magazine's New York Bureau Chief Susann Remke (Kindle e-book, €4.99). Both novels are scheduled for June.

Sarah Jane Gunter, Amazon's director of international publishing, said: “We’re excited to expand the opportunities we can provide to German authors by acquiring and publishing works in German, building on the success we have had bringing top German authors to English-language readers through our AmazonCrossing translation imprint.”

Amazon Publishing is also looking to expand its operations in the UK.
