Amazon ponders same day delivery

Amazon.co.uk has said that same day delivery of books is a "great idea", but that an announcement about the service is not in the offing. Last week Amazon.co.uk m.d. Brian McBride said Amazon was looking at a "super-fast" delivery service that could deliver books on the same day as order.

"It will be quite expensive, but for that distressed purchase--for someone who has forgotten a birthday--it will give a range of options," McBride told the Daily Telegraph.

The retailer currently offers three delivery services: a free super saver service for orders of more than £15, a first class system and an express delivery scheme, where if an order is made before 6pm, it will be delivered the next day for £8.99.

A spokesman for the retailer said: "We're always looking for ways to improve our service to customers. We know that providing a range of delivery choices is important to them. Same day delivery is a great idea but we have no plans to announce anything currently."
