Amazon hires former White House press secretary

Amazon has hired former White House press secretary Jay Carney as senior v.p. for worldwide corporate affairs.

Carney, who served as press secretary for US President Barack Obama for more than three years until 2014, will begin in his new job on Monday, Politico reported.

It is the first time the online retailer’s worldwide public relations and public policy areas will come under one department, with Carney splitting his time between Amazon’s Seattle headquarters and its Washington DC offices.

Paul Misener, who runs Amazon’s lobbying efforts, and Craig Berman, in charge of PR at Amazon, will report to Carney, who will report directly to c.e.o. Jeff Bezos, said Politico.

Carney joins Amazon from CNN, where he was a political commentator.
