Amazon has dropped the price of its international Kindle to $259 (£156), just days after it began to ship overseas. It now matches the price of the US version.
The $20 price drop comes as rival American bookseller Barnes and Noble revealed its own e-book reader. The nook also sells for $259 and offers 3G wireless connectivity and will support applications using Google's Android operating system.
Customers who have already bought the Kindle at its original price of $279 had the $20 refunded. Engadget reports that they received an email that said: "Due to strong customer demand for our newest Kindle with US and international wireless, we are consolidating our family of 6" Kindles."
