Allfrey joins Granta Magazine

<p>Jonathan Cape senior editor Ellah Allfrey is joining <em>Granta </em>magazine as deputy editor.</p><p> Allfrey, who has edited Cape authors such as Carmen Callil and Julian Barnes, as well as commissioning the likes of Dinaw Mengestu and Evie Wyld, is also responsible for Cape&#39;s list of young African writers.</p><p>She said it was a &quot;particularly exciting&quot; time to be joining Granta. &quot;While I am sorry to be leaving Cape, it&#39;s an irresistible opportunity to work on a magazine that has published many of my favourite writers,&quot; she said. &quot;I am delighted at the prospect of working with John and the team at Granta&mdash;finding the very best of new writing and building on the magazine&#39;s reputation as one at the heart of cultural life.&quot;</p><p>Acting editor John Freeman welcomed Allfrey&#39;s arrival, saying: &quot;Her passion for literature from around the world and her proven record of publishing excellent and award-winning new writing is invigorating.&quot;<br />&nbsp;</p>
