Aitken Alexander Associates will be the first British agency to open an outpost in India when its office in Delhi begins operation on January 17.
Heading up the business is Shruti Debi who formerly oversaw editing, marketing and publicity responsibilities at Picador India and developed its list.
Gillon Aitken, chairman of Aitken Alexander Associates, said: “With the agency’s long-standing and close relationship with the subcontinent, it seemed to us a natural step to open an office there...With Shruti at the helm we are well placed to discover and nurture what we expect to be a rich seam of talent in the coming years.”
The office will also help support the agency’s existing roster of subcontinental writers including Cyrus Mistry, Pankaj Mishra and Raj Kamal.
