Virago has acquired a "hilarious and poignant" essay collection, I Might Regret This, about love, loss and "figuring out who you really are when you thought you already knew" from American actor Abbi Jacobson.
Jacobson, best known for creating and starring in the Comedy Central show "Broad City", began the collection when she set out alone on a roadtrip from New York to Los Angeles in need of a "step back" to "hit the reset button". However despite being a solo traveller she found she had more to say than ever.
"This collection of essays terrifies me," she said. "I drove across the country last Summer to find some silence, and I ended up saying more than I ever have. I was working constantly; my heart was broken and I felt like a chicken with its head cut off. This book is me getting it all down on paper, in an attempt to figure myself out more. So… yes, I might regret this."
The book contains anecdotes, observations and reflections as well as original illustrations from the author (who is also an illustrator). Jacobson is already the author of the illustrated book, Carry This Book, and has created two colouring books: Color This Book: New York City and Color This Book: San Francisco.
I Might Regret This will publish in hardcover print, e-book and audio editions on 30th October 2018.
Sarah Savitt, publisher of Virago, who acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from United Talent Agency (UTA), said: "In her many guises - from writer and producer to illustrator and actor - Jacobson is always fearless, intelligent, intimate and of course ferociously funny. We are delighted to welcome her to the Virago list, where she has many fans, and we know this book will find her many more."
