A&B acquires NYT bestseller

<p>Allison &amp; Busby has acquired <em>Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet</em> by Jamie Ford, a debut title that has spent 58 consecutive weeks on the <em>New York Times</em> bestseller list.<br /><br />Managing editor Lara Crisp bought UK rights from Whitney Lee at the Fielding Agency and the author&#39;s primary agent Kristin Nelson at the Nelson Agency.</p><p>It will be the independent publisher&#39;s lead hardcover fiction title in May 2011. <br /><br />The book centres on the discovery of the belongings of Japanese families living in Seattle during the Second World War, abandoned when they were sent to internment camps. Lead character Henry Lee finds a Japanese parasol that triggers memories of that time, and of his friendship with Keiko Okabe, a Japanese American student.<br /><br />Crisp said: &quot;This is an incredibly moving story set during a fascinating part of history. Fans of T<em>he Help </em>and <em>The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society</em> are going to love it.&quot; </p>
