Transworld has bought a book about the 1932 Winter Olympics by senior Guardian sports writer Andy Bull.
Editorial director Giles Elliott acquired UK and Commonwealth (ex-Canada) rights in Speed Kings: The Fastest Men in the World and the 1932 Winter Olympics from Rupert Heath of the Rupert Heath Literary Agency.
The book, Bull's first, is said to uncover "the story of an extraordinary cast of daring amateur adventurers, living life to the full in an age of decadence, whom circumstances brought together to win gold in the Bobsled in Lake Placid."
Elliott called the book "Cool Runnings" meets The Great Gatsby, saying: "Andy is clearly a brilliant storyteller and he has uncovered a gem here."
Speed Kings is scheduled for publication in 2015. North American rights have gone to Megan Newman at Gotham for "a high six-figure sum".
