<p>Bestsellers by J K Rowling, Monica Ali and Nigel Slater were among the winners at the W H Smith People's Choice Book Awards. Rowling won the fiction award for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Bloomsbury), Ali the debut novel prize for Brick Lane (Doubleday)--her first UK award--and Slater the autobiography and biography award for Toast (Fourth Estate). US author Richard Powers took the prestigious WHS literary award, now in its 45th year and selected by a panel of judges, for The Time of Our Singing (Vintage).
