One hundred UK stores join retail site Bookshop will have around 100 stores on board in its first month of business in the UK and plans to target Spain and Portugal next.

The firm, an online retail site for indie bookshops billed as a way to counter Amazon's market dominance, is scheduled to launch in the UK next month following runaway success in the US this year.

Its founder, Andy Hunter, told the IPG Autumn Conference he had been convinced to rush forward a UK launch after getting appeals from publishers and the Booksellers Association.
