Textbooks market hit by exam chaos but home learning titles soar in lockdown

Over the 36 weeks of available data in 2020, School Textbooks & Study Guides continued the long trend of growth, jumping 7.2% in volume and 5.7% in value against the same weeks in 2019. But since Nielsen began reporting sales figures again in March, following national lockdowns, the usually buoyant category is looking sluggish for the first time in years. 

For the 11 weeks of available data so far in 2021, 1.09 million books have been sold for £8m, a fall of 28% in volume and 25% in value on the spring period in 2019. (Of course, no data was reported over spring 2020, during the first lock...
